Achieving Your Goals in Terms of Macros

The universal term “If It Fits Your Macros” is widely used in dieting. But what does this mean? Michael Matthews, the best-selling fitness author, and CEO at Legion explains the nutrition phenomenon.

We know that macronutrient-based diets sound complicated. It is not difficult once you grasp the basic concepts. However, it is essential to get your body in its best shape. It is much easier to stick to your macros once you have calculated how many calories each category contains. Michael Matthews, founder of Legion Athletics explains the famous customizable diet. He even offers a quiz to help you find your numbers.

We will start by explaining the basics of the diet. It’s obvious that weight loss is about a calorie deficit, or eating less calories than you burn each week. The macronutrient-based diet or hitting your macros, expands upon that idea and adds structure.

These numbers refer to how much protein, carbs and fat you eat each day. Your target means that you have consumed the recommended daily amount of each category of nutrients, regardless of what food you ate. It gives you some flexibility in your diet, such as allowing for unhealthy foods to be included in your meals. However, you will feel the consequences.

Legion offers tools that will help you calculate your numbers. First, calculate your total daily energy expenditure (TDEE). You can do this with the TDEE calculator. They will give you an estimate of the calories you are burning each day by entering your body measurements and activity level.

You can then set a daily calorie goal and then break it down to macronutrient targets. The wonderful Legion website provides tips and tricks to help you follow the plan.

Once you have your numbers, you can stick to a meal plan that gives you some flexibility. Your weight loss journey will be more enjoyable if you don’t have to follow a strict diet.
